The ATI X800XT runs at a much higher core and memory clock. This probably gives it a boost over the 6800XT. Not to sure about two 6800XTs though, might just about edge ahead of a single X800XT.
One thing though, of the two links youve given, the X800XT is an AGP card, while the 6800XT is PCI-e... better pay attention to this or you might get a wrong card :P

If I was you, I would get something more like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130256
The Geforce 7800GT is a very powerfull card, beats both cards you have been looking at with ease.
Just the one will be almost at the limits of your budget, but I would say its the best buy for PCI-e socket without spending much higher amounts, asuming PCI-e is what you need and not AGP.

In the under $300 price the 7800GT is pretty much the best you can do. The 7800GT is a excellent card and handle almost anything you can throw at it.

im getting 2 6800XTs because they are cheaper then 1 7800GT (from what i saw). go with what you think you need. 1 7800Gt would give you room to sli, but that would be unneeded. 2 6800XTs would be pretty much as good as 1 7800Gt, and they are cheaper.

I have to disagree. 1 7800GT will perform a good amount better then 2 6800XT.

The XT's would be beaten by the single 7800GT in this case. It's all about processing efficiency which is something the core of the 7800 series rocks at.
