FX 5500 Problems

I recently purcahaced an FX 5500 from newegg, simply put, its being really cranky to me. I tried installing drivers w/o the card installed, doesn't work-setup gives me an error message. Tried installing drivers while comp was running on onboard video-bluescreen two seconds into windows. Tried installing drivers running on new card with windows drivers, froze and gave me a never ending command prompt.

Now, get this-this setup is running in a 160 watt PSU Suicide? yep! so I can pretty much rule it down to that.

Anybody think its anything different?

160w is barely enough to run anything anymore. I also suggest booting into Safe Mode and remving all traces of the drivers you installed. Installing drivers for hardware that's not installed can seriously bork a system.

A'ight. Thanks, I didn't realize that it was 160w until I had the computer open and was installing the Vid card. No worries, though, its a comp from waaaay back in '01.

Wow, that's pretty old! I built a machine for my folks back in 2001 that they still use now. Had lots of "future" technologies like SATA and 400FSB. Even the 8X AGP was a new feature at that time!

Anyway, upgrading the PSU will help out in much more than just video.
