Which Video Cable ??????????

Hi, hope you can help.

This isn't strictly a video card issue but i didn't know where else to post this thread.

I just got my ViewSonic VX924 and it is unclear which cable i am suppose to use.

It came with 2 and both fit my Radeon 9550 256mb AGP card.

There is a 15pin plug and a strange plug (white in colour) in the manual it shows both connected so this is what i did.

With both connected the monitor works perfect but the manual states "connect the video CABLE" now i read that as cable not 'cables' if you follow.

So my question is has anyone else wondered which one to use or am ok using both as once ?

Hope this makes sense.

Thanks for any response

Lee.

You should use one or the other and not both. If your flat panel has the DVI connection (cable with the white ends) I would use those as this pushes a digital signal to the monitor and not an analog.
The cable with blue ends (15pin subD) is analog and the cable with white ends (DVI) is digital.
Your video card gives you the capability to run either or. Plus it gives you the capability to run dual monitors.

The white 1 should be a DVI(Digital video Interface) port. You should be able to use either one but I'd use the DVI if possible over the VGA port because the DVI should provide better quality.

Ya what he said

Not all DVI ports on the cards are digital, so if it doesn't work then it's an analog DVI port. We have digital displays where I work and I don't see a difference.

Thanks all

I did try it with just the DVI plug and it worked just the same...it sets itself to digital.

I still have both connected as i was unsure before your replies, but if you think it should only run with one i will disconnect the VGA one.

Hope i haven't broken anything having both connected ?

Cheers.
