New Card, Windows is black
Upgrading a ATI Radeon 9200 AIW to a PNY GeForce 6600.
After removing the old drivers, powered down, swap cards (yup, i hooked up the power to the card), power up, win xp loads fine. Added the new drivers, reboot. Everything works fine up to the Windows Splash Screen... then black. Sound of windows loading, and i can pull up a game thru hotkeys. I feel a bit blind tho o.0 Tried removing, reinstalling, Driver Cleaner, etc. couldn't find a post like this, redirection or assistance would be fantastic. After troubleshooting, I think this card has something against winxp (who doesnt?) WinXp Pro Antec 380w MSI K7N2 Delta2 GeForce 6600 1 gb PC2700 |

It seems you have the requirements:

Can you boot in Safe Mode?

I can boot to safe mode, and vga mode.
the drivers are taken from the cd that was issued with the card. i'll try the newest drivers tonite, but i don't think this is the problem. I've seen issues similar to this around other forums, but the typical 'resolution' is uninstall drivers, reboot, install new ones, reboot... this works fine other than the black screen i have when windows kicks in the new drivers. would updating my bios/agp/ etc help? if so, someone have a link? |

in another thread, Dai posted:
"in the device manager uninstall the card reboot tapping f8 and choose vga mode when windows finishes reinstalling the card disable a/virus reinstall your drivers reboot the computer" well, i tried this. but when i entered windows in vga mode, the Add New Hardware Wiz pops up, asking to search for the Standard Vga Adapter, which cannot be found. this prevents me from changing the refresh rate for my monitor or resolutions < as i had a similar refresh rate problem when i first purchased my LCD, i've been trying to change it to no avail. > note: after i install the drivers and reboot, i get the black scrn after the splash scrn... a reboot to vga mode, and check in device manager shows no monitor and Nvidia GeForce 6600 is found under Unknown Devices |

Did you install the drivers for the monitor?
Try these drivers for your video card http://www.pny.com/support/drivers/?prod=verto
