FPS PROBS - ATI 9200 PCI 128mb

Hey,

Quick question...tried to the http://dayofdefeat.com site and no one ever responds so I thought I'd try here as well.

I play DOD:Source regularly on my laptop and I get decent FPS and all that..
Specs on Laptop:
Gateway 7405GX
Mobile AMD Athlon(tm) 64
Processor 3200+
2.0ghz, 512 MB of RAM
ATi Mobility Radeon 9600 64mb

I usually get about 30 - 40 FPS and only experience minor lag in the beginning of the game after connecting to a server...

My friend gave me a video card for my desktop...

Specs on Desktop
HP a1034n
Pentium4 530 (P) HT 3.0 GHz:
800 MHz Front side bus
Socket LGA775
HP motherboard name: Goldfish3-GL8E
Ati Radeon PCI 9200 128mb
30 - 40 fps

When playing the desktop it starts up the game 10 times faster, connects to the servers faster, downloads faster, plays faster...but after a few minutes it starts freaking out...major lag for about a second and then go's back to normal play...few minutes later, does the same thing...over and over...

I have tried to turn up and down the resolution and tried turning up and down the graphics...nothing.

Any help?

I'm assuming you are playing online as it d/ls faster, connects faster, etc. The only thing I can think of for the lag issue is your internet connection or a background task. I'm also assuming you didn't get lag with your laptop so that rules out your internet connection. Which leaves a background task. Do you have an anti-virus application running on your desktop? You didn't list how much RAM you have in the desktop so maybe there are a lot of apps running in the BG and your RAM isn't sufficient to process that much. Also, if it lags only for a little bit every so often, run a spyware and adware program. Maybe something it transmitting/receiving and it is stealing precious bandwidth!

good luck!

Do you use wireless or wired networking?
I had this exact problem myself. Turned out in the end to by my computers network settings.
The laptop may be working fine, but the computer has a bad setting somewhere, and its disrupting the network.
The game used to work fine for a few minutes, then kind of pause for 2-3 seconds, then work fine for a few more minutes, and this would repeat over and over.

The computer looked fine on the internet, and some types of games ran normaly, so it looks like the net is working perfectly fine. After uninstalling all network settings and drivers, I reinstalled the network adapter, and installed and configured the network, and suddenly the game started working again.

Well...I am almost ready to uninstall the game and drivers...waiting to see what guys have to say on dayofdefeat.com...

I have done so many things...

Used different configs, tried a pci latency tool, using different settings of directx and heapsize..., turned down all graphics and resolution...but nothing works...

It lags out, the ping goes to like 500, the fps drops to like 5...and all th edead bodies flop up into the air...so...ummm, who knows
