Very strange video card problem...
I have an nvidia 6800 GT. Over the last couple of days my computer has been having problems booting up. Sometimes it will go all the way until Windows should be coming on the screen and just stop and go black. Othertimes, once turned on, the power light on the monitor will just flash as if there isn't a signal (but no "No signal detected" message on the screen.
As of today, all I get is the flashing light and black screen. The computer isn't booting up at all with the 6800 in. I put the card in two friend's computers and it worked fine. I put 2 different old nvidia cards in this computer and both booted up fine. When trying the 6800 in the computer again, I got the same problem. We also tried a 5900 Ultra with the same result. However, a ti 4200 works. It's an intel d865gbf motherboard. We're all stumped. |

I'm just guessing but that could be a power supply problem. Both a 6800GT and 5900 ultra suck up lots of power from the 12 volt power supply rail and don't work. All the other cards are low power cards and work fine. Your power supply could be giving up the ghost. If you have another high wattage power supply available then I'd swap it in to see if the 6800GT and 5900 ultra will start working. You can also use a motherboard monitoring program which came with your motherboard or SpeedFan to check your power supply rails with a video card which boots and see if any of the voltages are off. They should all be plus or minus 5 percent except 3.3 volts which is plus or minus 4 percent. I'd also unplug the power supply cables to the motherboard and see if the connectors look good. Sometimes the connectors can overheat or oxidize and become discolored.

I'm fairly certain at this point it isn't the power supply. The one I had in there was a 500w and we just stuck a 400w in and the computer boots up fine w/ the ti4200 again, but not with the other two cards.
