New drivers having negative effect?

Hello, I could use a little bit of video card help.

I have a Radeon 9800 pro 128 card. I used to run it with some older drivers (somewhere around Catalyst 5.4 i think), and ran my games just fine. I recently had to wipe my HD though, so when I got everything going again I went and got the newest drivers (5.11). I noticed that I now receive more lag than I used to when playing games.

For example, I used to be able to walk pretty smoothly around heavily populated areas in World of Warcraft, but now I lag a good bit (not enough to make it unplayable though). I haven't fully updated windows back to how it was since im lazy, but I plan to do so soon.

I still have some testing to do, but do the video drivers sound like the problems? If you think so I will try going back to some older ones but I dont see how new drivers could have a bad effect. Thanks.

Hi,

I happen to think that the Omega drivers are the best for this card. Anyway, that is my personal opinion:

It is not uncommon for there to be times when the manufacturers release unreliable drivers, it looks like you either have to install Omega drivers or wait for another release from ATI.

I have had a problem in the past where a certain set of drivers messed my 6600GT up, creating white boxes when i played certain 3D games but when they released the next set of drivers i downloaded them and now i am fine so dont worry about it too much. Hope that helped

Me and you have almost the exact same problem

Look at my thread for my problems, looks like after reading around I may have to go with the drivers listed here
