Radeon x800 GTO or Nvidia 7800 GT?

Post title really says it all.

I was planning on getting the nvidia 7800 gt, but after looking at http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/131 and http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/132 as suggested in another thread I just read a couple minutes ago, it seems there isnt too much of a difference between the x800 gto and 7800 gt (except a huge difference in price).

The only diff I can see is 12 pixels per clock on the ATI vs 20 on the nvidia... big difference? Worth the extra $150? or is there a better card for under or around a few hundred dollars I should be looking at?

I'm looking for a vid card capable of high end gaming, if that helps at all...

Thanks for the help!

My System

The 7800GT is way faster than a x800 gto. Benchmarks show that a 7800GT is usually a bit short of twice as fast as an x800 gto.

If you'd like a PCI-Express card at around $200, then you should look at a GeForce 6800GS like this one. It's quite a step up from an x800 gto but not that much more expensive.

Of course, if you're willing to wait a while, there will be better deals available soon. (When is that not the case?) For example, the GeForce 7800GS looks like it will be very nice when it shows up. The 6800GS looks to be a short term product (just a few months) and it may be replaced by the 7800GS fairly soon.

If I was getting a PCI-Express card today, I'd get a 6800GS.

heh, very glad you said that because I just got back from the store a little while ago with a 6800 GS. Specs looked good and so did the price, so I picked it up!

Now if I could just get the comp to boot... but thats for another thread.

Thanks!
