Upgrade My Video Card, Or No?

I have a P4 2.8GHz running a 6600GT, which will eventually become obsolete for newer games I want to play. My question is, what card do you think I can get before I notice bottlenecking? I would really love a 7800GT, but I don't even think my cpu will handle it.

your cpu is not that bad and I don't see it really being a bottleneck for any games. getting a 7800gt would improve your performance a lot. For me, its all about the vid card. I tried overclocking my cpu and playing games, and got no performance increase at all. The only game where having a good cpu really might help, from what I hear, is HL 2.

Well I just recently upgraded my vid card and motherboard. I now have a BFG 7800 GToc and it runs unbelievably good, plus BFG comes with a lifetime warranty, a very reputible company. I had to go with PCIe so I had to upgrade the mobo as well. Its really amazing graphics, I play BF2 with the settings on full blast and it runs smooth nad so realistic, it has brought me to a new level of respect for games lol.....anyways enough rambling, so yeah I think BFG 7800gt is the way to go. Have fun!

Check the sticker on the side where it lists the amperes. On the +12v is should be at LEAST 20a. If not you'll want to upgrade. Enermax and Antec make quality, powerful PSUs that will do the job.

Antec actually will cause a lot of issues with higher end mobos and such. If you plan on upgrading major components such as mobo later, get an Enermax, pc power and cooling, and a few others. Toms Hardware.com did a good article on psu's and listed major manufacturers and how they rank. Do a search to find it. You won't regret it.
