Go into Bios(hit F keys), it should have a list of onboard devices....then just disable the graphics...post back w/ results

My System

An eMachines t2893 uses the Intel 845G chipset. That means that if you're plugging in an AGP video card then the onboard video is automatically disabled. But since you're plugging in a PCI card, what you need to do is go into the BIOS (BIOS basics here) and set the PCI slot to be the primary display adapter. You don't actually need to disable the onboard video and many motherboards with that Intel chipset don't even give you the option of disabling it unless you plug in an AGP card. The BIOS option you're looking for is usually called "Primary display adapter", "Primary VGA adapter", "Init display first", or something like that. You'll want to set it to PCI to tell the computer that your primary display is the PCI video card. Once you've set that value and saved your BIOS settings then you can turn the computer off, insert the PCI video card, and connect the monitor to your PCI video card. The onboard video will continue to function as a secondary monitor and you can disable it from within Windows if you want but it's not necessary.

There's another option in the BIOS which should be able to control how much memory is allocated for your onboard video. Once you're running properly off of your PCI video card you can go into the BIOS and reduce the amount of memory used by the onboard video. That will release the memory so it can be used by the operating system.
