Cry fx 5500 black screen

hi
i recently bought a gforce fx 5500 256 mb but when i triend to install it, the pc practically doesnt work, only a black screen, no beeps , nothing. the card works fine (recieves electrecity) in the motherboars and I noticed it. my pc is a P4 1,7 GHZ 512 mb ram with a 4x agp slot 1.5 only.

ps:* the problem cant concern the onboard graphics because i already got an older gforce 2 ti which works fine in the agp slot

*i have no damn idea about what power supply is and how to change it, so if it is the last problem please help me as a beginner in this point

thanks already for your help

look on the side of power supply and post brand and wattage and how many amps on the 12v line
if you need to change it,then it is quite easy and straightforward
disconnect it from the power
disconnect all of the plugs inside of the computer
remove the 4 screws holding it in place at the back of the computer, and slide it out
on some of the smaller cases you have to remove the support rail that runs from front to back of the case before you can slide it out

ok, my power supply is old with only 250 w ,i think that's why the card did not work, so i bought a new one with 450w but i dont trust the one who sold me this thing so here's a picture of the supply called rexpower pl-450 but i did not read any 450 w in the indications in the box so please tell me if it's 450 w.
another question, my agp slot is 4x 1.5v only, is it ok with the gforce fx 5500.

thanks dudes

It is a 250 watt. Some resellers will buy a boat load of cheap PSU remark them with numbers like this for the unsuspecting.

i read it as
3.3 and 5v lines=250max
you can tell the quality by the price you paid for it

so no hope it's a 450w? i thought u should add all the output numbers to get 450w.
i paid 20 $ for it, but i was assured that it's a 450 watt. apparently it's a 250 only.
i'll change it tomorrow, because even the seller doesnt now a damn thing a bout the power supplies.
i hope they change it.

a quality supply will cost a min $75+
if you are not prepared to pay this, then try the one you have bought as the amps are ok on it

i'm too damn confused right now! i upgraded the spu to a 350w, i tried the fx 5500, the fx 5200 and the ati 9250 and no of these cards work, but the my old GeForce 2 TI never got me in trouble. *ps: all the cards work fine in other PCs.
i'll post u all the information needed for my P4 vmm2, and please try to find what's wrong.

thx, and happy thanksgiving to all

how did the 450w turn into a 350w,you are right down on the minimum with a 450,todays comps usually require around the 550w mark if you read the posts, you will see people using the lastest and greatest are fitting 650-850+
at the rate they are going up in 10yrs you will need a generator.
the amps the supply puts out is more important than the wattage, you need to see a min of 20a on the 12v line or if dual 12v line supply add the two lots of amps from each line together

On page 25,there's a setting called AGP Comp Driving, set this to manual, then set it as high as you can,I think it's FF.

Have you ever updated your motherboard drivers, the BIOS is a last resort. Here's the link to the mobo drivers.http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWeb/Product...ailName=Driver.It's the first one VIA Service Pack (4 in 1).For the BIOS I'm going to need the PCB number, because there's a different BIOS for each one.It should be written on the board next to the model number.
