screen blacks out with maya 6 ple

Hi,

I'll start with giving my system specs:

P4 2.8 ghz 775
msi 915 p combo
nvidia 6600 gt 128 mb (pci - E)
512mb ram
Case 350watt

The problem:

When i'm working with nurbs and i select the object and use the "project curve on surface" on the object my screen blacks out. It usually takes about 15 sec before the problem appears when the "project curve on surface" tool is selected. My computer doesn't shut down or crashes, my screen just turns black. Then I reboot and everything works fine.
I can work in maya 6 ple with no problems except the one i mentioned above.
I thought maybe the problem could be that i don't have enough watt or is it my graphics card. I don't know. If somebody could help me out of this. Because it's quite annoying not to be able to use the tool.

I use 238 watts without graphic card. I couldn't select my card because mine is pci - express. If i choose the graphic that takes the most watt i come to 315 watts, i have 35 watts extra. I guess that's enough.
