Old Games

I have a Radeon 9000 graphics card. I run into problems playing really old video games, like for example the original Myst. Those kind of games require 256 color displays, but my computer only has 2 options, 16-bit color and 32-bit color. It seems logical that if my computer is able to display over a million colors it should be able to display 256 of them. Is there any way to fool the game, or do I have to dig out my card from the the 90's and plug that in?

Have you tried running the game in compatibility mode? To set this, right click on the executable for the game (it'll most likely be in "C:\program files\developer\game\"), hit properties, and in the compatibility tab, check the box that says "run in 256 colors". If that doesn't help, try also running in compatibility mode for windows 98 or 95.
