4X/8X AGP Question

I just purchased a GF6600GT card. My buddy got jealous and also wants to purchase one. His AGP slot is only 4X and in the requirements listed on the video card they mention, "Requires AGP 8x slot compliant motherboard." Can you tell me if this card is truly a requirement or just a recommendation for highest performance?

My System

A 6600GT is compatible with AGP 4X slots. The performance loss of running at AGP 4X rather than 8X is at most a few percent in most cases so it doesn't matter. The only question is whether he has a fast enough CPU to benefit from a 6600GT. If he has a very slow CPU then there may not be much advantage in upgrading the video card.

Thanks UM. He has a 2.8GHz P4 with a 400 FSB. Should be ok, yes?

Yea, that's plenty. When I see AGP 4X I get worried that someone may have a 733 MHz Celeron or something.
