worth upgrading?

hello....i hve...i've been wanting to do a major upgrade this summer, but all things didnt turn out the way i wanted, so now im stuck with this computer of mine.

2.8Ghz Celeron
768 RAM (PC2700)
5200PCI

i only have PCI slots, so taht leaves me with little upgrade..
i've been doing lots of reading, and from what i know, i've thought about upgrading my vid card. prolly with a 5700LE PCI....is that worth it?
maybe get 2x512 ram too..
oh, and of coourse, the 5700LE has to be the 128-bit versiion..can someone give me a link to a 128 bit version too?

suggestions plz

Hi,

This has to be a personal decision. If it were mine, I would save my money until I had enough to buy a motherboard that would take a PCI-express video card. That way you open up other options as you go along and you could use some of the components you have in this board until you could continue to upgrade. That is my two cents worth.

its not really worth upgrading that computer. just save your money and then like tumbleweed said, buy a motherboard with a pci-express slot in it.

R3zagron:

You have a standard, out-of-date budget system. It's a rock-solid machine and would be ideal for anything except gaming. Without an AGP slot, your videocard can't get the bandwith it needs to perform. In other woords, you could plug in a Geforce FX 7800 PCI (if it existed) and it would give you about the same performance that you have now.

My rec'? You have two options: either build a new system and use the old one for something other than gaming, or (the better option) replace the motherboard in your current setup with something that supports your current processor and has an AGP slot. Then you can sell your old videocard and buy something that fits in your AGP slot.

now, by the time i have enuf money for this, it will be out of date, cause some new things would be out...maybe the AMD chipset, crossfire, R520....so i dunno what to do...
oh, also, i play hl2, DOD, CS:S, NS, and hopefully DOD:S(when it does come out) i was just thinking that maybe if i get the 5700LE, it could hold me off till then
