cannot set monitor to 1280x1024
Hi
I am not sure if i am in right place.I have dell dimension 3000 with window xp home sp 2 and intel celeron cpu.Recently i am having a problem with its display. If I set 1280x1024 resolution the monitor screen starts jumping vertically though my monitor supports the resolution .I can set all other resolutions including higher resolutions that my monitor supports.I have a compaq p110 crt monitor with flat screen and intel(r)82865g graphics controller.I fail to comprehend the problem.any help is welcome. |

I'm not sure this is your problem, but I had an old moniter that wouldn't set to 800 x 600 so I reinstalled the video drivers and it worked just fine. Might try that.

interesting problem there. Why dont you update the monitor drivers. Please get the latest drivers first(monitor - videocard) . Have you been experiencing any kind of a videocard problem lately ? As well you can use default monitor or plug in play monitor options too. Won't hurt to try. right click on desktop - properties - settings - advanced - monitor tab - properties - driver tab - update driver . try automaticly option first. if you dont get a positive result try saying no not this time - next - install from a list or a spesific location - next - dont search... - next - and chose whatever you have in the list. (most likely plug and play monitor and default monitor. )

As per your suggestion I tried updating monitor drivers:I see two in add hardware wizard namely plug and play monitor & compaq p110 (which is my default monitor).but the problem remains. Here I would like to tell that when i clicked driver details in monitor tab it tells me 'no driver files are required or are loaded for this monitor'.I tried finding latest drivers on web but I have the latest driver for graphics controller already. Also I never had a problem with video card before .

Thanks for your response.but the problem is my monitor supports only 75 hz & 85 hz in 1280x1024 resolution(correct me if i am wrong).I figured that by reaching properties-settings-advanced-intel graphics-properties-monitor.still i changed the screen refresh rate to 60 hz but problem persists. As regards second monitor I never thought about that.I am going to try it this sunday.
