6800 problems PLZ HELP!!
I recently bought a brand new 6800.I removed the original heatsink/fan and replaced it with my Kingwin arctic liquid cooler gpu block.I also removed the original thermal compound and upgraded it.As soon as the system powers up(even in bios)im getting horizontal and vertical tearing and pixelation almost like a checker pattern across the screen.I was thinking the power supply might be the problem but replaced it and didnt make any difference. When I put my 6600gt in,the system runs fine.I then took off the water block and put on the stock heatsink/fan and it dosent make any difference. To my knowledge I have all the latest drivers and bios for my motherboard.I was running a 400w power supply but am now upgrading to 500w to see if it makes a difference.Im out of ideas and would hate to do the long warranty process. If you could give me any help or at least suggestions,it would be much appreciated.Thank you

It's possible the RAM is bad on the 6800, but the only way to really test that is to slip it into another system and see if the problem repeats. It sounds like the card's problem if it works with the 6600 but not the 6800.

I know that this is going to seem crazy but... you might have busted your video card when installing the water cooling.
I remember reading Maximum PC's issue about water cooling, and on one of them, it said that it busted a couple 6600s while installing it. Listen to elf first, but if the card doesn't work in another computer, you probably busted the video card. |
