need Display help..

Hi!
well, i have a compaq presario 5000, all the sudden one day, i have these light gray shaded lines accross the screen wherever there are words or sentences or pictures or whatever, its almost like when your printer drags a little and leaves that light shaded line behind all the words and stuff that its printing..its light enough that i can still see everything ok, but i know its not supposed to be doing this..like right now why im typing this out, the screen is white like it should be underneath this sentence, but as soon as i get to the end of this line and the cursor drops down a line, the gray shaded stuff starts, so when im sone, it almost looks like notebook paper with all the lines forming behind my sentences..ok, ive tried pulling the video card out and reseating it, along with the memory stick, ive tried installing the recovery disc and starting all over reloading windows ME, and also removed and reinstalled an updated video driver, nothing changes it. The video card is a nvidia vanta LT, dont know if something could be wrong with it or not, i wouldnt think so though, any ideas guys?
thanks!

Hi, and welcome to TSF. I don't believe you have any sort of hardware issue. I do believe this is a windows issue. You might clear it up in the display properties, fonts and colors. Try setting the defaults there. If you want to make sure the hardware is OK, you can try a Live Linux cd, such as I'm using on the Compaq 5722 where I am now a guest. Link to the site is http://www.watsky.net/ The CD is around 182 MB, and will run in a 128 MB RAM environment. You'll need to download and then burn as a .ISO file.

wow 64MB? what version of windows do you have? About the only one that would run on 64MB is 95 or 3.0 ...

If all you do is run in 2D mode (almost everything but 3D games are in 2D mode) then 16MB isn't going to make any noticeable difference.
