nv4_disp.dll error when closing game!

I play World of Warcraft, and as many people know, this game hogs every ounce of computer resources possible. Recently when exiting hte game, I get the dreaded BSOD (blue screen) where it dumps the physical memory to the disk or whatever, and am forced to restart my computer.

A few weeks ago I tested a video card on this computer, a 6800GT (agp slot). I had to return it for other reasons, so I put my Geforce4 Ti 4200 back in and things worked fine. It's only been since recently (about 3 weeks ago) that this error started occurring. I'm not sure how to fix it as there are many different types of problems that spawn off this.

I've tried installing new drivers, uninstalled/reinstalled the game, virus scan, all the good stuff, but it still happens. Any ideas on a possible fix? I'm on the verge of reformatting :(

Edit: this doesn't happen all the time, only about 75% of the time.

Bump ~

I uninstalled the video card, started up in VGA mode, reinstalled the video card, and just 10 minutes ago got the blue screen again upon closing the game. I'm at a loss now... damned nv4_disp.dll

Another part of the error, it says this on one of the lines:

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

Does this help at all?

did you disable a/virus while you installed the drivers, the nv4-dll usually rears it's head when they have corrupted during the install and a/v is usually the culprit
as you have found out there can be a number of causes
spyware
bad video ram
power
have you another card you can put in to check

I just put in a fresh new 6800GT, and I still get this error. I want to avoid having to reformat if it's possible =p

This is the only BSOD error I've ever seen, and it's only happened with WoW. I close the game and half the time it crashes to the BSOD, even after uninstalling/reinstalling drivers and video cards.

I dont know what else to do

I seriously doubt its any virus/spyware. I am very careful at what I download and make sure nobody sends it to me. I really think it's some hardware issue, but what, I don't know.

IMO, i think that the problem is the video drivers. Regardless of how many times you update or switch cards, problems can still occur unless you correctly flush the old drivers out before installing new ones. Try searching NVidia's site for a driver uninstallation. I believe ATI's site also has a utility for uninstalling NVidia drivers for those of use who made the switch. After uninstalling, reinstall the latest drivers and see if that helps.

Well yesterday a friend told me to install Omega's nVidia Drivers, so I did. So far, I'm 0/3 on crashes. Maybe the new drivers fixed the problem? Either way I'll keep monitoring it.
