Hi,
Thanks for replying, in answer to your question, No, I have made sure I properly uninstalled the old agp card hercules 3d prophet 2 mx. In fact Since posting this problem I have formatted my primary hard disk and reinstalled xp with the new card inside only to find I'm still having the same problem. |

Thankyou, I beleive you are correct and that this maybe an irq conflict but on the resources tab it doesn't say anything other than the same error message
code 12, I should be able to rectify any conflicts from there shouldn't I? Should there be 4 devices using irq11 as in: (pci) 11 ASUS radeon 9200se (pci) 11 cmi8738/c3dx pci audion device (pci) 11 via rev 5 or later USB universal host controller (pci) 11 via rev 5 or later USB universal host controller As these show in the device manager under view>resources by type. P.s Before and after installing the graphics card there appears to be no conflicts between the sound card and the usb host cons.I havn't got a clue about irq's so please help me. |

no irq conflicts
Moving the sound card did change the irq settings but that was not the problem, I uninstalled the agp card and reinstalled it after moving the the sound card and still had the same problems although the sound card and other devices are now on irq 5 leaving the graphics card on its own on 11.
I think we can eliminate irq conflicts now, so thanks. WHAT IS GOING ON, THE WORLD HAS GONE CRAZY, AND NOW SO HAS MY COMPUTER!!!!! |

The firstpossible problem on the trouble shooter is saying there maybe two copies of the same card in and there is two copies showing in device manager exactly the same except one says secondary after it.
I've tried installing them over and over again (making sure i uninstall them properly and that they are actually gone before i re install them) but they still both show up. there is no way of installing the driver whith only one copy showing after so i think it might be deliberate. |

Secondary is actually the DVI output on the card. It needs to be there.

Hello There,
I don't disagree with any of the good advice you have been given. Have you tried to delete all the drivers you are using and then (download them before you delete to a disk) try the Omega drivers. They work well with some of these ATI cards. They have a good deal of excellent drivers that work, but I did not look to see if they had yours. Might want to look: http://www.omegadrivers.net/ |

Hi tumbleweed
Firstly thanks, I too do not disagree with any of the advice I have been given I probably should have made it clear that I was extremely grateful for the time taken to try and help me, and I realise only too well that it is something I am doing wrong. I have downloaded the drivers you recommended and will uninstall the previous drivers using the asus remove software and also driver cleaner pro before I install them. I will let you know how it goes, fingers crossed, Thanks Nick_e_b |

Did you lose the GART file?
You uninstalled a Hercules AGP card so I must presume the ATI 9200se is also an AGP card. There is a certain file required for all AGP cards to run on Intel boards call a GART. It's not really a driver but more of an .inf file. It should be available at ATI's website as well as more info about it. I fear you may have uninstalled this file when you removed the Hercules driver but it is required. Hope this helps.
http://www2.ati.com/drivers/igp-gart-1009-1.html Also saw your post on another site. Yes it is normal for 9200se to show as primary and secondary because it supports dual monitors. If you're not using two monitors you can disable the secondary and maybe that will free up an IRQ. Last edited by PCPain; 07-23-2005 at 10:09 AM. |
