Radeon 9600XT no AGP 8X on Asus board

I have recently installed an xtreama radeon 9600xt 256mb onto my system. i have tried to set the agp speed to 8X through catalyst but after retesting it always resets to AGP off. My motherboard is an Asus P4P800-X which supports AGP 8X, i have looked in the bios to see if there is an AGP enabled setting but could not find anything. Can anyone please advise what may be causing this issue. Your help is much appreciated.

There's generally a setting in the BIOS...

My guess is, if the drivers won't keep the setting, it's probably because the motherboard is resetting it.
