radeon 9250 (pci) install problems
I just purchased a dell dimension pc and am trying to install a radeon 9250 pci card. I seat the card, set the bios to auto under primary video. When i boot the card is not detected and the onboard reinstalls why is this? And what can i do to fix this problem?

Primary video would be your integrated video. Set it to PCI to get it to use the new card.

Then "auto" is the correct value in the BIOS. Since you're adding a PCI card you should not uninstall the display driver for the onboard video. It would just end up reinstalling itself on the next boot. All you should have to do is set the BIOS option to auto.
What model Dell do you have? Does the BIOS screen ever show up on the PCI card? Have you tried it in all available PCI slots? |

I've looked around on Dell's forums (in this thread) and other places and seen that some people have problems getting the 9250 to work in their Dimension 2400s but I've also found people who have gotten them to work. You should make sure you have the latest BIOS because someone solved their problem that way. For Dimension 2400 (not 2400C) you can get it here. Other than that, you could try installing the card in someone else's computer to see if it works. It just looks like the problem is that some Dimension computers seen extremely picky about when they will accept a PCI video card. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. It looks like the best advice is to buy from a store which accepts returns without a restocking fee when you are upgrading that kind of computer.
