Dual Displays
At work I've got a nVidia GeForce3 TI 200 card in a Dell Dimension 8200. It's got VGA and DVI out. I have the DVI out hooked up to a Sony HDTV, and the VGA out hooked up to a flat panel monitor. I can switch between the two displays, but I need to be able to display them simultaneously. In the nView options where you can choose standard, clone, dual view, etc. the only option available is single mode, even though it recognizes both displays.
I have tried the newest driver from the nVidia website (ver. 71.89) and a driver that XP automatically found on the computer. I know of a couple more drivers I can try later today at work. Also, the person said that they had previously (many months ago) been able to display both at the same time. I'm almost positive it's the same computer and video card. I'm going to bring my computer to work today; I may end up switching video cards if mine works and his doesn't... So my question is this: Is the card not capable of simultaneous output, or do I need a different driver, or am I missing a setting, or what? Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I really need to get this working today. Thanks. Last edited by socav@insightbb; 05-28-2005 at 12:13 PM. |

If you want to see different images on the two displays then enable DualView. That will configure it to display two different images on the card, thus doubling your work area.

Man, I so wish I had a GF3 to mess with. I'll tinker with my 6800 tonight and see what I can learn and also refresh my memory.

cool thanks. Yah this is really stumping me. I'm going to try the two other drivers I haven't tried yet, and if that doesn't work I'll hook up my computer, and if my computer works I'll just switch cards.
I've got an FX 5200 128 mb. The other one is a TI 200 64 mb. Which is better, and by how much? |

These screens were taken under Window™ XP Pro SP2 running nVidia 71.89 reference drivers on an eVGA geForce 6800.
http://www.killerdismount.net/display01.jpg My system has two CRT displays connected, one on the VGA and the other using a DVI->VGA adapter. http://www.killerdismount.net/display02.jpg This shows how nView is configured to use the monitors, an extension on Windows'™ own ability to support multiple displays. Note that DualView is currently selected. That allows me to have two displays running with each showing something different. http://www.killerdismount.net/display03.jpg This final screen shows the available nView modes... Single display configures your system to use just one display. Clone allows you to use two+ displays and show the same picture on both. Horizontal span will extend the desktop seamlessly right or left across your displays to give you a wide desktop. Vertical span with stretch the displays up or down to give you a tall desktop. Dual view will drive the monitors independently. Note: This seems to work ONLY on video cards with 2+ RAMDACs. ----------------------------------------------- For some reason the images won't show so please click the links.

Thanks for the help.
I couldn't get that video card to work. I put my personal one in, an FX 5200 and it works. Now the problem is getting them to display correctly. The HDTV is widescreen and the monitor is 4:3. When I try clone mode, and set the resolution at a widescreen format, such as 1280 x 720, the monitor is screwed up. When I set it at a 4:3 format, such as 1280 x 1024, the TV is all screwed up. So I tried Dualview, where I can independently set each resolution. I set each resolution, but when I have the monitor set as the primary display all that shows up on the TV is the desktop background, no icons, cursor, or windows. When I set the TV as the primary display, all that showed up on the monitor was the desktop background and icons, no cursor or windows. Any suggestions? |

Nevermind, I got it!
I'm using dual mode. It's pretty cool how it works. When I play a video (which is what the goal for this is) it displays full screen on the T.V. The T.V. also acts as an extention to the right of the desktop. That's pretty tight, except the taskbar is auto-hidden on the right side...Hopefully the boss will be ok with it though. Thanks a lot for your time. |
