Graphics issues
X- Navigator Aspire 500w psu 6 fans
Asus P5GDC-V DELUXE mb 1 gig corsair value select pc 3200 160gb Seagate Serial ata 80 gb maxtor ata BFG 6800 GT P4 3.4 ghz Lga 775 cpu Gigabyte Rocket 3d pro Liteon CD RW Sony DVD -Ram My computer has been running fine but about 2 weeks ago I noticed graphics problems. When I am playing any game like Call of duty The building texture looks kinda zig zagged and power lines look like they are moving or a fence looks like it moves when I am running. All the colors in the game are fine and I dont see nothing flying across the screen or anything, it's just the shapes of buildings and around doors. Also when I watch dvd it looks fuzzy looking. It's just bad enough that I dont want to play my games.I have also noticed lagg now when I play. It does that with any game I play. Far cry, battlefield vietnam. Also my pc has restarted itself once or twice on it's own. I thought it was my video card, but I also have onboard video and it does the same thing but alot worse. I have updated my mb bios, Updated my video drivers, memory test. If anyone could please help me. I would think that the 500 w psu would be able to handle my specs, unless it's just a cheap brand, but I didnt have this problem at first. I have had my pc for about 3 months now and about 2 or 3 weeks ago I started having the problems. |

do you also see weird color line artifacts around your desktop when your not gaming? if so i had the same problem. i thought it was my video card fan which is quite small since ATi fan's are very useless. so i dropped a bigger aftermarket fan and a exhaust since i think it was overheating. have you tried another video card to see if you get the same result?

I have the NV silencer 5 on my card and at the moment I have the bfg drivers isntalled, but I have also tried the 71.89 drivers before I reformatted my comp. My intergrated video does the same thing but alot worse. Yes alot of weird lines around the edges of buildings, kinda looks like it's hazy and the and the edges of buildings and doors are moving, as well as powerlines and poles or fences. Even when I am not moving in the games the texture of buildings and fences etc. doesnt look right. Maybe a motherboard problem?

Oh and when I am just at my desktop everything seems to be fine, but when I right click desktop, go to properties and when I click okay or another tab the whole properties box seems to jump, just something I just noticed.

Even after a format, eh? I admit this one has me a bit stumped. It would seem that you have sufficient cooling on the card itself. And it does have some thermal grease/compound on there, right?

Yes I put artic silver 5 on gpu and artic ceramic on memory and the temps idle around 50c and gaming never goes over 60c . Maybe a motherboard problem? Because the intergrated video has the same problem. Also could the psu cause this.

If you run MemTest86 overnight, it gets no errors? Your symptoms could be caused by a low voltage coming from the power supply. What voltages are reported by the motherboard monitor program? If you remove the 6800GT from the computer, does the onboard video still have the problem? So the edges of everything when running "plain old programs" in 2D mode look fine (mostly) but things look weird in 3D mode?

Yes my onboard video still doesnt look right even when I take out my video card. I ran Prime95 for 9 hours and did not get any errors. I ran memtest86 for 4 hours with no errors. My voltage settings are: +12v ; 12.46 , +5v ;5.068, +3.3v ; 3.28, VCore; 1.36 those are without my video card in. The onboard is so bad that when I am playing Call of duty it looks like the roofs of buildings are swaying and the tops of walls and corners of buildings kinda look like they are swaying also with more lagg. Could my processor cause a problem like this? Also thats in 2d when I have problems, I have overclocked my processor and video card in the past though. But I just dont believe it's the video card just because the onboard has the same problem but worse. Do you think my motherboard could be causing a problem like this.
Thanks guys for all the replys I am getting, just hope I get the prob fixed

I have been reading some reviews about my power supply and motherboard on newegg, which is where I ordered all my parts. Alot of people have had problems with the powersupply I have. Saying that the voltage is not very stable. I did just notice that while I am playing call of duty that my +12v dropped to 11.89v. Dont know if that would have anything to do with my video card performace. As with the motherboard, nothing but good reviews. My psu is a Aspire 500w.

Given that you're running some pretty high-powered parts, I'd look at something like a 550W Antec and make sure to get the 24 pin power connector. Or if you know someone with a decent 380 watt or up supply, you should try borrowing it to see if it solves the problem. |

Yeah I was just starting a game of call of duty and as soon as I was getting ready to start running in the game, my pc just restarted itself. So good call unclemarco on my psu. I will be getting a Thermaltake 560w with pfc active hopefully in couple weeks. Thanks for all your help and the others that have posted. Thanks guys

A 560 watt ThermalTake is an okay power supply but you can get a better supply in the same price range. If you haven't already ordered your supply you might consider one of these. It's an Antec 550 watt and really has much more power where you need it (dual 12 volt rails with 19 amps each) than the ThermalTake (at least the model I'm looking at here which is a single 12 volt rail of 22 amps). But be sure that you get the 24 pin ATX connector rather than the 20 pin version. The ThermalTake I'm looking at has a 20 pin ATX connector.

Actually... it might. When I installed a new PSU in my system I could actually see the increase in frames. My GPU was finally getting the juice it wanted and it performed happily for me.

Thats really good to know, I guess my case just came with a piece of **** psu lol. Cause I knew that my 6800 gt should be giving better fps than what it was doing. I hear everyone talking about no lag in all games with settings on high. My pc even with all my hardware would still lag in games like far cry and Joint Ops. Thanks again

Okay guys, things are starting to get alot worse now. I havent gotten my new psu yet. But now when I am just browsing the internet and I use my scroll button I hear this ticking noise inside my computer, and then all the sudden it will restart itself. When it comes back on it will still make this ticking noise and finally stop then my computer boots right back up. It is doing this alot more often now with this ticking noise. Could my psu mess up my motherboard and other parts as well if I continue to use it like this?
