Integrated GPU
Ive got an emachine 220 with intel graphics, will i be able to install the XFX Geforce FX5200 256MB PCI, and disable the onboard GPU.
Also im from the uk and cant seem to get hold of the FX5500 version, 5200 seems to be the best i can find over here for PCI Thankyou |

I can't seem to find any specific information about your computer. The UK eMachines web site is pretty useless. In any case, since you're adding a PCI card you don't have to disable the onboard video. All you have to do is go into the BIOS (instructions here) and set the primary display adapter to "PCI". If you have an option like that in the BIOS then you should be able to get your PCI card to work. The option can also be called "Init Display First", "Primary VGA Adapter", or something like that.
Be careful to get a PCI video card which has 128 bit video memory. Lots of PCI video cards with 128MB have only 64 bit memory and as a result they are very slow (details here). The 256MB versions should always have 128 bit memory. |
