Gigabyte X800XL PCI-E Overheating!
Hi.
I recently upgraded and I got this X800XL PCI-E video card, (which BTW roxors my boxors), but after playing for a while (SW Battlefront & CS:S) the thing resets the VPU and the screen checkerboards. As you can see in the pic, the card gets to over 113 degrees C. I've heard that they cook at 115. Normally it runs at about 50 degrees when the computer is idle. It shoots up to over 100 when playing high-end games. I can only play Battlefront for like half an hour before it dies on me and checkerboards I'm using the stock cooler (no fan, just a huge heatsink with heatpipes) and I've been thinking about getting a VGA silencer or something, but I don't know if they would be powerfull enough. Maybe my card is stuffed and I need to take it back, I dunno. Any ideas? I'll post photos of my setup (airflow etc.) when I get a chance. Thanks in advance! -Evan |

The problem is that if the cards dont have any fans and heat isnt removed from the case properly they overheat very easily.
I still think one of the best things besides improving case airflow is to get a 120 mm fan and mount it under the card and let it blow across the huge heatsink. That would vastly improve its cooling.
