That's an okay card but it's only a little faster than the much cheaper Radeon 9250 I mentioned in your other thread. An FX5500 is technically a DirectX 9 board but its DirectX 9 support is so slow that you really can't use it in games. An Fx5500 is for all practical purposes a DirectX 8 board when it comes to games.

Re: BFG GeForce FX 5500 OC 256MB DDR PCI Graphics Card
I just installed the same card on my Compaq SR1020NX. I'm running WinXP/SP2 with 1Gig DDR Ram. I have a 250 power supply, all the things required by nVidia. I removed the Video adaptor before Installation and at restart I changed the bios to a PCI video.
Everything worked just fine until windows reinstalled the video adaptor and rebooted the system. Video, gone, nothing, nada. All I could get was a black screen. As if I didn't have any video at all. Any suggestions? Please, I just want to look at a good underwater 3D screensaver I just bought without having it jerk from frame to frame. And seeing pictures in true color would be nice also. Thanks |
