9800 Pro install
hi, im new to the forums and im hoping someone could help me with installing ati radeon 9800 pro.youll have to forgive me for things im doing that seem illogical or wrong, im was trying to figure this out on my own. my pc specs are found at (im have winxp)
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/g...00039102&lc=en i had uninstalled nvidia onboard drivers, installed the card into my pc, changed PCI to AGP/Onboard in BIOS, and the install wizard started up asking me to insert a manufacturer cd if i had one. i did and went through the process and it appeared to me that the card was installed fine. then i read in the manual that i should have canceled the add hardware wizard and use the ati catalyst software to install. having already done the wizard, i decided to install the software from the catalyst cd anway. the cd installed everything and told me to restart. it restarted but the screen resolution looked weird and everything looked big. under device manager, display adapters, it said the card was not working properly. i did a system restore to before i unistalled the nvidia drivers. i went through the whole installation process again, this time i canceled add hardware wiz and used the cd. but same thing, after everything on the cd was installed and i restarted the pc, the screen was weird and under device manager it said the card wasnt working any ideas or should i just stick with using the add hardware wiz? thanks for taking the time to read this. please help! |

Download the latest drivers from the ATI homepage - drivers from the CDs that come with the cards are nothing but trouble.

if you have internet access, check out www.majorgeeks.com and download a program called "driver cleaner." use driver cleaner to uninstall your current videocard drivers and the program comes with proper instructions on how to properly uninstall the videocard drivers.
i second what sarkast said and download the ATI videocard drivers from the ATI website. use driver cleaner to uninstall the current videocard drivers and then go to ATi's website and download the latest catalyst drivers. good luck |
