Exclamation Estimated 15mins after use... comp locks up

Okay I have a curious problem and let me just go ahead and warn that I suck with computers. I recently purchased a GeForce MX 4000 AGP 128MB video card but when I installed it, continuously after about every 15 mins the computer would completely lock up and the only way to get it back and running, was to turn it off in the back and restart. I have no clue what could be the problem and I know I installed the drivers and such right from the disc. Any ideas on what is going on?

Thanks for any help

Does it have something to do with it being a 128MB DDR when my ram is a SD PC133?

or... *winces* just looked at the requirements and it asks for AMD Athlon and mine is a Duron? I know it sounds like a stupid question but again, I know nothing about comps.

Neither of these matter. They won't cause any problems.

When you say the computer locks up after 15 minutes, do you mean after 15 minutes of putting a load on the video card, or do you mean it will hang up after just sitting there for 15 minutes? If it's the latter, then have you checked your power options in the control panel? It could be the computer is turning off your monitor and the video card can't handle it.

It's usually 15 mins after playing the game we bought it for and the game that says it does definately support it, the game being WoW (World of Warcraft).

We have a new power supply but I'm not sure how to find out information on what the power supply is or how to raise it.

Generally, if it hangs up after a certain amount of time while playing a 3D game, it's caused by overheating. On the other hand, an MX4000 isn't exactly a huge power consumer. You can tell if it's overheating by running the computer with the case open and rigging a desk fan to blow on the video card. If it takes longer to hang or doesn't hang at all then you have an overheating problem.

What do I do if I have an over heating problem? Is there a good video card that is less than $75 that can work for me?

Or is there a way to set up anything inside my computer so that it doesn't over heat as easily?

First I'd check out if it's actually overheating with the desk fan. I kind of doubt an MX4000 would overheat unless your case has really bad airflow. If it's really overheating then it's usually pretty easy to fix with an extra fan or just rearranging the ones you have.

My MX440 was crashing with the latest drivers, I have reverted to the microsoft drivers that "Windows Update" has found at Microsoft...no more crashes, my machine was doing the same thing...

MX440 MX4000, same thing...
