Using a secondary (external) monitor
Hi all,
Can you please help me. I bought an IBM thinkpad notebook (1200 series) a couple of years ago. It is a "1161 43M" product type. The video card is a Trident CyberbladeAi1 AGP (42). I have a question regarding the enabling of a secondary (external) monitor. I have enabled the secondary monitor. However, it seems that I can only get a split picture. In other words, part of the desktop remains on the laptop (primary) screen and the other part resides on the external (secondary) monitor. Is there a way that I can configure the display options so that the secondary monitor produces a picture that is a mirror image of the picture displayed on the primary monitor? Please don't tell me to update my video card driver unless you are sure this will fix the problem and you can tell me where I can get the relevant update. I am using a 2001 driver I found on the IBM website. I have not been able to find a more recent driver anywhere. I am not certain that a driver update will fix the problem anyway. And before you all tell me, I have tried selecting the "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor" check box. When I try to uncheck the box, the secondary monitor is automatically disabled. Please help. Mark |

When you go to display properties go to the settings tab and click "advanced". Check and see if there is a tab relating to your card (not adapter, but something else). I don't know how the trident drivers go, but with nvidia there is a tab and I think ati has one too.
As for the nvidia there is an option in there to set up dual monitors, and you can do them horizontal, or vertical or offset... Again I don't know for certain this will work with trident cards but its worth a shot.
