i being having a problem with ati 9600 xt card
I'm running
Xp PRO 3.2ghz prescott socket 478 abit is7 mobo 2x512mb ddr pc3200 420 power supply ATI 9600xt 256mb 4 case fans(2 thermaltake, 1 led aerocool, stock fan) zalman CNPS7000A-ALCU heatsink zalman vf700-alcu vga cooler my problem is that when i played battlefield 1942 or any other new game with extreme graphics, the 3d model in the game are choppy and granulated(too many little squares on the screen). then after an hour it freezes forcing me to manual boot. i'm sick and tired, but i have change the driver from old to new and biceversa. but the videocard work fine with my old soyo mobo. at first i taught it was the motherboard but now i'm concern that my power supply might not be enought. casue i' been adding so much components to my pc. if that it's the problem, well i already order a topower 600watts psu. what do you guys think.

Its possible that your power supply isnt sufficient. It might also be an overheating problem. Have you checked your CPU temp with a program like speedfan or MBM5 ?
I'd also check the gfx card to make sure the heatsink properly touches the GPU and RAM chips (if designed to do so). You could always open your case and have a big fan blowing right in it to see if the problems go away or it takes longer for them to appear. Also have you tried reducing your AGP speed to 4x and turned fastwrites off ?

yes, it might, cause it idle at 48
but when i play any new game, escpecially battlefield 1942, temp goes to 55.
i just bought the zalman vga cooler. i haven't try playing yet. give me a sec. but most likely it's the power supply, for temp, i might have to make more air holes and put more fans. |

i have tested my system
well i still notice blobky and dissapering lines and blocks in the game. but i also notice that the led fan on the window case isn't working at full speed. why case if i put my hand next to it, nothing or very very air is pulling from the case. so i think that i have too much stuff. i need my psu to arrive. i hope tomorrow.

55 degrees under load for your CPU is not bad at all so that shouldnt be the problem.
How is airflow through your case created though ? Do you have your side fan sucking out ? I'd suggest a flow "from front to back". Of course i dont know if you have any intake and exhaust fans but its usually best to have the front and side fans pushing air into the case and the back fans sucking it out.

Its odd that changing your AGP speed to 4x makes your LCD turn off.
To turn fastwrites off shouldnt cause any conflicts or freezes - as these are usually the problems when its turned ON - and often has to be turned off to regain stability.

good question about the fans
are fun suppose to spin one way only. what do you mean flip the fans. cause i have two thermaltake fans sucking the air out the case. and a side window fans that does the same. and another stock fan in the front blowing in. but i was thinking of buying a new mobo, http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p...tion)&class=mb here you find the mobo i want to buy. i hope this mobo won't give me problems.

Yes fans are supposed to spin one way only but of course you can always take the fan out of the case and turn it around.
What you need to do is look at your fans and maybe at their figures. LEt me try to explain. Let say you have a power supply with 1-2 80mm fans - they usually suck air out. You have an additional 2 80mm fans in the back - both are medium airflow also sucking out. For sake of simplicity i will assume they all push around 33 cfm (cubic feet per minute). So the fans are currently removing 100 cfms of air from the case. Without any intake fans that air gets sucked through all cracks and holes anywhere in the case - for all you know right next to where your fans just exhausted hot air. Not good. So what you'd try is also have 100 cfm of air being pushed into the case - so you have a real flow - usually from the front to the back. In reality you dont need to have exactly the same ammount of cfm being pushed - i just tried to illustrate. You mentioned that your side fan hardly pushes any air out - thats probably because you have a lot more fans sucking out than in - thats why it has a hard time - there is just not enough air being allowed in the case. If your case allows it a 120mm front intake would be best - and also have the side fan push cold air in. Thats usually good because right under it is either the graphics card or CPU. Then the other fans in the back will remove the hot air. I know this was a little long but i hope you understand the point i am trying to get across. If you buy a new mobo - make sure you buy it from a company with a decent return policy - so incase it doesnt solve your problems you can return it.

IS7 known problem
I had the same problems on the same card, but with most 3D games. I also had numerous hyperthreading problems under XP as well. I sent an email to abit and they said that they were aware of the problem and that a new BIOS update would be released at some stage (thanks for the excellent help abit
).My solution to this problem was to return the board for credit and get another one, after completely berating abit techs for supplying a dodgy board and planning on fixing it later. |
