reformated my system because of the nasty lil adware bugs and stuffs but have hit a lil problem havoing reinsalled XP. When tryying to install the drivers for the video card (nvidia geforce fx 5200) the nvidia drivers have installed no problem but have not made the display any better. Using the SIS 2.09 driver insatllation thingy for the VGA i have experienced a "VGA device does not exist!" error. i no it does exist because i have been using it fine since i reformated. i have a exclamation mark next to the "VGA Controller (VGA Compatible)" and the SIS accelerated Graphics Port devices in the device manager and says that the drivers cannot be loaded for the VGA for the above reason. the AGP has let me install the driver but has made no difference to the status of it in the device manager.
can any one help? i havent got a clue what could be wrong with it! i havent touched the hardware inside the machine before i reformated so there is not chance of poor workmanship! |

First off let me say, there is no need to post the same problem twice.
Second, if you are using a geforce fx5200 then you don't need to update SIS drivers...but rather the nvidia drivers. Try downloading and running THIS. They are the newest drivers available for your card.

I'd like to ask you something about the part i quoted above. What exactly are the issues you have with the way your display looks currently ? Of course i dont know what your previous setup was and if the FX5200 worked parallel to your onboard graphics (of you you intentionally want this setup) - but i'd say the best thing to do would be to disable the onboard graphics in the BIOS - or if not possible there then in windows in order to avoid any graphic driver conflicts.

erm well im currently using programs like adobe photoshop and high quality imaages and editing them and stuff so i believe i need it for them? im not sure but i think im right in saying that? i dunno...but in the general use of the computer the windows when moved are jittering and just not smooth in the way that the display appears on the screen. fine when nothing moves on the screen but untill a window is moved then there is jittering etc. should i be worried about the "vga device does not exist!" business btw?

Actually you dont need the onboard graphics adapter if you have another graphics card (which would be the 5200). By the way is the FX5200 the PCI or AGP version ?
Where is your monitor currently plugged in - the VGA output on your motherboard or the graphics card ?

Yea the SiS would be integrated graphics if I'm not mistaken, and I don't think you should be worried about it not detecting a vga device.
Since you have the 5200, you just need to update the drivers for it. Did you try it yet?

Because it does the same thing as your fx5200, just not as well. The SiS and the 5200 both create the image you see on the monitor, but the 5200 will create a better image faster, so there is no reason to use the SiS

so is it still possible that i could correct the SiS thing then? i knoiw i dont have to use it now but should the situation arise that i would want to use the SiS is it possible to bring it back to a usable state?
also have you any idea at what might have caused all this in the first place? and what if installing the updated drivers doesnt work? what else can i do? |

i think you are getting confused between vga device and vga mode, when you have your drivers
in the device manager if onboard is listed disable it uninstall the video card reboot tapping f8 choose vga mode when windows finishes booting and reinstalling the card disable a/virus install your drivers reboot the computer what vga mode does,is to stop windows reloading the old drivers before you have a chance of installing the new ones
