Hi,
Just a question that might help someone who looks at your thread. Did the machine have a video card in it when you purchased it, and if so what was it? Also, please let us know if this unit might have an onboard video card. That should help to sort this issue out. |

An eMachine T3828 is an Intel 845 which means it has onboard video. Did you add an AGP video card or a PCI card?
If you added an AGP card, then the onboard video should have been automatically disabled when you plugged in the AGP card. If you added a PCI card, then you will have to go into the BIOS (hit F1 right after you turn the machine on) and arrange for your PCI card to be the "primary video adapter". If you don't do that, then the video will still go out on your onboard video. |

Hi,
What we find some times on the "onboard" video like your machine has, is that you have to go in the Device Manager and manually "Disable", not delete the onboard video. If the suggestions by UncleMacro do not solve it, I would go to the Device Manager next and give that a try. |

Hi,
Was the new card a PCI or an AGP video card? It almost sounds like you still have remants of the old video drivers in there that are not disabled. You need to make sure that those old drivers are disabled. Also, maybe Uncle has another idea on this one. |

If you can boot in VGA mode then there are a couple of things to look for: 1) Your monitor has been misidentified (which happens sometimes when you change video boards) and when Windows sets its desktop resolution, it is setting one which your monitor cannot accept. This is especially likely to cause problems if you have an LCD monitor. Go to the advanced display properties (open "Control Panel", double-click "Display", select "Settings" tab, click "Advanced") then click the "Monitor" tab. If your monitor is not identified properly, then click the "Properties" button, select the "Driver" tab, click "Update Driver", and then go through the process of properly identifying your monitor. Note that if your monitor is identified as "Plug And Play", you can still have problems, especially if you have a flat panel. If your monitor was not identified properly, then reboot to see if identifying it fixed the problem. 2) Your old onboard video needs to be disabled because it has decided to become your primary display in the middle of the boot process for some reason. Go to the device manager (open "Control Panel", double-click "System", select "Hardware" tab, click "Device Manager") and see what appears in the "Display Adapters" list. You should still see "Intel Extreme Graphics" or "Intel 845" or something like that along with your FX 5500. Right-click the Intel graphics entry and then select "Disable". Then reboot and cross your fingers. |
