ATI Radeon 9500 Pro errors
I am having a problem with my ATI Radeon 9500 Pro video card while playing games. After playing the game for 10 or so minutes, the Graphics card will stop responding to Driver commands. Sometimes I can recover the system, while other times it completely locks up. I just recently bought this card off of Ebay. I have installed the most recent drivers for the card. What should I do? Should I return it, or do I just need to install different drivers? Thank you for your help.

Difficult to tell what exactly the problem could be. It sounds a lot like somethings overheating.
Try taking off the case sidepanel and let a fan blow into it - see if it still locks up after 10 minutes or maybe takes longer ? If the card has a fan - make sure its running. Inspect the card - see if the heatsink is sitting on it properly. If it doesnt appear to be a heat issue i'd also download a program called ATITOOL and run the 3d cube to see if you have artifacts. Maybe the card is damaged (i say this because i bought a damaged 9600 a while back from ebay so have first hand experience). Please also post the rest of your systems specs: CPU, RAM , Motherboard and power supply (if its no name please read the output values off the side for all voltages). That way we can look if there might be another incompatibility or anything that raises a flag. What gfx card did you use before you installed this one ? Did you properly deinstall the old drivers before installing the new ones ?

Computer Specs
AMD Athalon XP 2600+ Processor 350 Watt power supply 256 MB Ultra 333 Mhz RAM Soyo K7VME Motherboard I assumed that it was a heat issue at first aswell. The Fan is running and I have taken off the case and put a desk fan next to my computer and it is blowing air into my computer to insure that it doesn't overheat. I am currently running the Artifact finder in ATITOOL. How long should I let that go for? Or does it auto stop eventually? I used to have a GeForce 2 in my computer. I uninstalled the drivers before I removed the card. Thank you again. |

You'll see at the bottom there is a timecount running - i'd say if it didnt find any for an hour then your problem probably lies elsewhere. Does the fan and open case seem to make a diffrence or not ?

I uninstalled the drivers and then installed the newest drivers and my problem seems to have gone away because I was able to play a 30 minute game of Warcraft III with no problems. I'll keep running the test and I'll post when it finishes. So far no errors after 15 minutes. The open case with fan doesn't seem to make much of a difference. Thank you much.

Do you think theres a way for you to try another power supply ?
Have you tried a program like speedfan or MBM5 in the past to check your other system components temps and the voltages from the PSU ?

I don't have access to another power supply right now, but I should soon. I know where I can get a 500 Watt power supply. I haven't tried using Speedfan. I just installed Speedfan now. All the temperatures seem to be fine except the third one which jumps really high and then really low. The voltages seem to be fine though.
