Radeon 9700 Pro Driver and enabling issues
I just recently upgraded my computer and wiped my HD, and now my video card is having major issues. Windows XP Home will crash/restart at what seems like random times.
I downloaded Catalyst 5.3 from ATI, which seems like it should handle the problem, but apparently it hasn't. I'm sure it is my video card because when I disabled it the crashes stopped. After I did that I read somewhere that I needed DirectX 9.0c and I know I didn't have that version, so I downloaded it. Now, however, I can't seem to re-enable the video card. When I disabled it I followed this path: desktop properties --> settings --> advanced --> adapter --> properties --> do not use this device (bottom drop down menu) All it recognizes at this point is the default videocard. I tried rerunning the ATI driver software to no avail, so I imagine I need to 'manually' re-add the device...? What I'd like to do at this point is learn how to re-enable the card and see if the DirectX solved the issue. If I still have trouble at that point I'll try and pick your brains some more. :) (Of course, if anyone thinks they know what is wrong now I'll try whatever you suggest if things go south.) Thanks a bunch! |

in the device manager uninstall the card and start from scratch
reboot tapping f8 and choose vga mode when windows finishes reinstalling the card disable a/virus run the setup cd reboot the computer if you then wish to update the drivers remove them via add and remove disable a/virus and install the new ones sometimes older drivers work better than the new ones, you might need to play around with them until you are happy with the result |
