Vapor X!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey dudes,
I was wondering whats Vapor-X edition? I was gonna buy a radeon 5850 and saw that theres a Sapphire Vapor X edition. Now i know that it is some kind of liquid cooling. But do i have to change the liquid or something after some time? And are there any disadvantages of using this kind of card? |

Re: Vapor X!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For a 5850 you would want a quality 650w or higher with 26amps on the 12v rail and an 80+ certification , this would be ideal
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...=corsair%20650 As for the 300 series not much is known , except that it most likely will be more expensive then the 5000 series. Also a good chance nvidia will just rebadge alot of their current cards as well.

Re: Vapor X!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know...they have a habit of doing that
![]() So i should get the card right now? And what exactly does 26 amps on the 12v rail mean?(i donno that much about power supplies). There are, like, two to three 12 volt rails.(in some psu's) Are we supposed to add the current in all 12 volt rails if there are more than one 12 volt rail? Re: Vapor X!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Quote:
Power (watts) = Current (amps) * Voltage (volts) So for a single rail PSU you take the current on the +12V rail, multiply by 12, and you get the power available at +12V. So for my PSU, that would be 60*12 = 720W. Unfortunately with multirail units there isn't an easy way to find out the total amperage available unless the manufacturer provides it, or your find a review where they actually test or dissect the unit. The current ratings on multirail PSUs simply state that if the power draw on any individual rail goes above what it's rated for (usually between 16 and 24A) the whole PSU will shut down. I've seen 550W PSUs with four 20A +12V rails, which if you just added it all up would make 960W at +12V, making it something like an 1100-1200W PSU. But in reality there are probably no more than 35A on the +12V rail, just four rails it can be delivered on. The hardware team is trying to get around these confusing labels by only recommending PSUs that we know have lots of current on the +12V rail. Look for: Corsair SeaSonic CWT PC Power and Cooling CoolerMaster Real Power Pro (Not eXtreme Power) Thermaltake Toughpower (not Pure Power)

Re: Vapor X!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OK...I'll try to get a decent 650W power supply.
I hope the card will fit? My case is a small form factor. I guess I have around 9.7" of space?? Motherboard : Intel DG31PR |

Re: Vapor X!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think that you're going to have space issues. Googling around, it looks like the 5850 is 9.5" long, but the power connectors are on the back, which means that you need some space for the cords and connectors. It's always possible to mod the case some, if it's a drive bay in the way, and you can leave it empty, a little saw action could take care of that. Unfortunately, small form factor and performance video cards don't get along well. Maybe you'll be lucky, but.........
One idea is to find the exact size of the card and make a cardboard cutout to match. Run that along the pci-ex16 slot and see if there's going to be issues with fit.

Re: Vapor X!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I actually took a tape and measured...looks like i have almost 10" of space.
I jus hope it fits. I can move the hard disk further down to create some more space for power cables. It doesn't look like there are any obstacles in the way. Any idea how thick the card might be? |

Re: Vapor X!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's a dual slot card, it uses one power/data slot on the motherboard, but 2 of the
expansion slots on the back of the case. They vary some in width, probably 1-2 inches, but that's just a guess.

Re: Vapor X!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
About 3/4" to 1 1/2", from what I've seen.

Re: Vapor X!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OK...looks like a tight fit!
But a fit nonetheless! Guys, do you know when there'll be a price drop or something? I was going to buy it this month. But is it a good idea to wait?? |

Re: Vapor X!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry. Fortune tellers we ain't!
I doubt there will price drops on the 5000 series any time soon, though, the demand is too high. The 4000 series went through a few dramatic price drops a couple months ago, but now they've stabilized a bit.
