Have i buggered my computer with my new 8800 gts?
Hello all, Now be nice its my first time posting on one of these forums.
Heres the scenario - I have a HP Pavillion desktop, AMD Phenom Triple Core processor 2.7mhz, 640mb HD, 4GB Ram, Geforce 9300 gfx card 230v psu Right so. Being a donkey, i bought a bfg geforce 8800 gts without checking any specs or requirements or anything beforehand. SO, when i got in from work on tuesday and it had arrived a day early - i thought YESSS. so with half an hour to spare before going out i thought id just whip the old one out and stick the new one in.... Now, when i put the new one in, nothing appeared on the monitor when i turned it on. ok i thought, maybe the card is faulty, ill put my old card back in. Still nothing. No POST no BIOS nothing. ****. so now when i boot not only is nothing displayed on the monitor, but the keyboard is unresponsive (no numlock lights when testing) although oddly the mouse light comes on, and the processor fans seem to boot up and then wind down immediately to a stop as if going into standby or something.... So if you had the patience to read all that ... what do you think it could be?? I tried taking the card out completely without replacing to see if it would beep at me and it didnt.. i also took all the RAM out to see if it would beep and it didnt.. does this mean i have buggered my motherboard? |

Could you find out the brand, model, and wattage of your power supply for us? This should be printed on a label on its side, the PSU is the boxy component where the power cord comes in.

Re: Have i buggered my computer with my new 8800 gts?
That's why your computer isn't starting up. That PSU can't deliver enough power to run an 8800GTS. You'll want a quality 550-650W PSU from a quality brand for that build.

Also, should that stop it booting up when i reinstall my old graphics card??? |

Re: Have i buggered my computer with my new 8800 gts?
If the PSU died from being overloaded, then yes. If your PSU died it could also have taken out the motherboard... But that's a worst-case scenario. We'll cross that bridge if we come to it.
