Red Faced [SOLVED] monitor stuck in standby/hibernate/Idon'tknow

so one day i decide my graphics card needs an upgrade, so i take it to the shop and they install it. a year or so later i get a message from steam telling me to update my video drivers to play L4D2, so i update the drivers. no problems for about two days until my computer crashes and i reboot it. after i turn it on again, the monitor doesn't turn on with the computer. it just shows the yellow ring that means it's in standby. i wait half an hour and try again and everything works perfect. after another couple of incidents like that, my brother shuts my computer completely off and now it absolutely REFUSES to recognize the monitor is there... i've been waiting for hours and trying every so often while looking around the internet for a solution but nothing works... help plz?

info about comp:
make: emachines H6535
processor: amd athlon 64 3500+
graphics card: ASUS (can't find number... O.o)

Re: monitor stuck in standby/hibernate/Idon'tknow

Try clearing your cmos. Unplug from the wall, take out the coin cell battery on the motherboard for half an hour or so, then put it back in and try again. If you get a post, try going into safe mode, see how that works.

The big question though, what did you upgrade the power supply to when you had a video card put in? Make, model, wattage, and output in amps. And you really do need to find out what that card is, you can check that when you take the cover off to look at the power supply, you need to physically look at it, there is no software that will tell you what that psu is.
