need help with nvidia geforce 6200 card plz!

Hello, This is my 2nd forum attempt (different site) trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong. I bought a geforce 6200 agp 8x vid card because I'm putting together a 2nd pc for basic work/testing purposes and I cant seem to get a video signal at all. I recently bought a Syntax SVX400 mobo off ebay for a P4 HT 3 ghz chip socket 478 I got from a friend while helping him upgrade his system. I bought 2 sticks of 1 gb ddr-400 ram to toss onto the system and plugged in some generic cd burners for now just to try and get it started. I've tried resetting the cmos jumper, replacing the battery, running without the ram/disk drives connected to see if they were the problem and going over the pin assignment about 7-10 times to make sure I didn't just cross something incorrectly. It powers up fine, I can hear the components and hdd spinning up, but I have no signal whatsoever. The mobo itself has no vga or onboard video input at all. I'm stuck and would appreciate any advice anyone can give.

Thx!

Re: need help with nvidia geforce 6200 card plz!

Hi and welcome!

What size of power supply do you have in this system? That GeForce card pulls approximately 104 watts idle.

Who is the manufacturer and what is the model number of the power supply?

Also, the specifications I have found on the motherboard itself does show that it supports DDR400, but refers to the term "CONDITIONAL" also. Unfortunately, I can't find anything that describes the "conditions" that are required to make DDR400 work in this board.

Does your system provide any system BEEPS at all when you power it on?

Did you purchase the 6200 new or also used?

There are a lot of possibilities on this specific issue. We will have to troubleshoot our way thru the various possibilities.

Thanks!

Could also be the cpu , the majority of pentium 4 3ghz cpu's with hyper threading have an 800mhz fsb and the board only supports a max of 533mhz.

Re: need help with nvidia geforce 6200 card plz!

I'm sorry for not responding for a while, been busy with a lot of stuff

The power supply is a Cool Power ET-PSCP 500 watt power supply, new (bought it for another system I had and couldn't use it).
The 6200 video card is new off of ebay, in the box. This system is the only thing I've ever hooked it up to. Because I'm really trying to get some extra life out of this Processor, going off of emosum's info, can anyone recommend a good 478 socket board I can check out? I don't care if I have to buy new ram, DDR ram is ridiculously cheap. It's a really nice processor FOR FREE lol. I wanna get some more life out of it.

Thank you for the responses :)

Re: need help with nvidia geforce 6200 card plz!

Hi and thanks for the update. Those 478 boards are hard to come by NEW. The only new one I have been able to locate is a BIOSTAR and I'm not too fond of those.

I guess you could try getting just about any ASUS or GIGABYTE 478 motherboard used/new off of EBAY if you can locate one.

BIOSTAR link on Newegg:

I have a few additional questions about your system that we have been working on and they are:
  1. Has this system EVER ran or are you just now trying to build it?
  2. Have you tried a different video card in this particular system, any AGP card, even low end?
  3. Have you tried or can you try the 6200 in a different system?

I would hate to see you buy a new motherboard just to find out that the processor or even video card are bad.

Thanks!
