laptop not recognize external monitor
I have a Toshiba satelite laptop and connecting to it a viewsonic vp201s monitor. Have connected them with a monitor cable and installed from manufacturers cd. monitor show up in system hardware but when go to display it shows 2 monitors in settings but neither one say viewsonic and don't appear to be the external monitor. it won't accept the ''expand desktop to external monitor'' just keeps clearing the check. when I turn on the monitor [before laptop] the green light comes on then turns amber and get a small square in the blank screen that says no signal. I don't think it recognizes the external monitor. Tried fn-f5 and plugged into different laptop and it worked. Feel like I must have something turned off or not right software installed or something. what to do? thanks

Re: laptop not recognize external monitor
That is what I thought and yet the user tried it with no avail?
I am stumped. All I could think of was some option in bios that would disable changing output display to an external monitor during bootup.
