Black Screen one beep and...

Hello, I am trying to fix a friends computer for him,he told me that the video would not work and then he changed houses and moved into his wifes. when given the computer it would not boot at all so i took a spare power supply and hooked it in and then the computer booted. but when it booted it had no video, my screen is black. He said he had the same issue awhile back on two diferent monitors, plus i know mine works so its not a monitor issue. Now for some weird reason I decided to lay the computer on its side and when i booted it again it kicked me into bios and gave me an alert about how my cpu speed may have been set incorrectly. So now i don't think it's the graphics card since it was able to show me the bios screen, and when i turn it back up it does not kick into bios or anything and just gives me a black screen. There is no onboard video just a pci-e one.

Re: Black Screen one beep and...

Check for shorts, especially the motherboard standoffs.

Reseat the graphics card.

It could also be a dodgy connection in the PCI-E slot, so shift the card a bit in the slot.

Like my current mobo, I have a 1mm thick piece of steel under where the plate screws into the PCI panels on the case to make the card work when the tower's standing upright.

You should have 9 (usually brass) case stand-offs under the motherboard for a full sized ATX board, make sure there is a mounting screw in each stand-off. If you make the mistake of installing a stand-off where its not suppose to be, the bottom of your board will be shorted!

Its very important that none of the metal surfaces on the bottom of the motherboard touch the case surface or you will create a nasty motherboard short!

If you do not pay heed to this warning, you will suffer the symptoms of a motherboard short, these can drive you insane!

If you are unsure how the motherboard is mounted or if you are unfamiliar with the stand-offs >>>>>> please review this link:
