PNY Verto 9600 GT Problem
Ok, so I have a PNY Verto 9600 GT 512MB that I bought about a year ago, and I've been contemplating on buying Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 2, but when I run the Demo for about 5 minutes my screen shuts down and the sound starts looping. I was told this was a PSU problem, so I replaced it with THIS. The shutting down bussiness happened on other games too, and they don't have to be high-end, my question is if its a PSU problem, my Video Card beeing faulty or... what? Allso while playing Frontlines: Fuel of War running on my old PSU which I was told was insufficient i had to put a house-hold fan on my computer to blow inn air or else the screen would shut down and the sund start looping, so this makes me think that it's overheating. Yes I've tried putting a fan to blow air inn while i'm playing Call of Duty to no prevail. Someone please help. D:

Re: PNY Verto 9600 GT Problem
The Corsair PSU should be fine. Have you looked at your Temps & Voltages in the Bios?
I would suspect the graphics card if your CPU temps and Voltages are good.

Re: PNY Verto 9600 GT Problem
I've looked everywhere that I could and I can't find any temperature or wattage readouts. I'm not really familiar with the bios so I might be looking in the wrong places. Help appriciated.

Re: PNY Verto 9600 GT Problem
This is what I got on the readouts from PC Wizard:
Hardware Monitoring : ITE IT8726F Voltage CPU : 1.09 V +3.3V Voltage : 1.78 V +5V Voltage : 5.11 V DIMM : 2.48 V VBAT : 2.96 V Processor Fan : 1670 rpm Chassis Fan : 874 rpm Processor Temperature : 5 °C Mainboard Temperature : 41 °C Power/Aux Temperature : 25 °C : Hardware Monitoring : ACPI Thermal Zone : 40 °C : Processor : Thermal Diode AMD Athlon 64 X2 (Core 1) : 32.5 °C AMD Athlon 64 X2 (Core 2) : 35.2 °C : NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT : GPU Diode : 42 °C GPU Fan : 65.00% Allso I switched out my PSU to my old one. THIS one. |

Is the card not doing anything at the time of the test? My BFG 9600 GT OC'D is running at idle 39 C. Not a huge difference, maybe my case airflow is just better. Also my fan is set to 70% not 65. Could make the dif. Otherwise it looks alright. PC wizard didn't print out the 12v lines though?

Re: PNY Verto 9600 GT Problem
No, I went to 'Voltage, Temperature and Fans' but the only thing it gave me was what I copied and pasted on my post.
Yes the Video Card was Idle, the only thing running when I did the test was Internet Explorer. On another note my case is retail, only thing added to it was the PSU and the Video Card. The reason I switched to my old PSU is becaue if it's not the cause of my problem then there is no reason for wasting money on it. The PSU inside my computer right now is THIS one and I did the test above with it. My question still holds, is it a temperature problem or a Video Card failure? Help appreciated. Re: PNY Verto 9600 GT Problem
switching back to the junk psu was not a good move
just upgrading to a quality one is not an instant fix,the underpowered psu would have caused a number of problems that need to be addressed after a quality one is put in

Re: PNY Verto 9600 GT Problem
We'll I bought a suitable PSU, THIS one but dai says that the PSU isn't the only problem, so I see no point in buying a new one and wasting my money. I might as well save up and buy a whole new custom-built machine which I wanted to do all along. I made this post in hopes that I could get some quick-fix tips to the problem my video card has, but I guess that's not the case. ANYWAY, I do appreciate everyones help. Thanks again.

Re: PNY Verto 9600 GT Problem
Thing is this Video Card's been doing the same thing since I bought it. Is it that having an under-powered PSU somehow made it malfunction? Or maybe the video card has a pre-set temperature at which it shuts down? I just have no idea how to fix this and I don't want to have to buy a PSU unless its totally necessary.

I mean you can under clock your GPU as well to make up for your lack of appropriate PSU resources. This is a really haphazard solution.
