Possible future upgraded advice
Hello!
I currently have this system. (I am currently searching through W7 forums before I post a question I have regarding it) I am looking to upgrade at some point in the future. It is mainly used for gaming so I was thinking of just adding another graphics card to SLI. THough my current card is not a spring chicken so I am hoping it wont mean buying two new ones. i had slightly OC'd my processor using BIOS so dont know what its on now: Processor Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6400 @ 2.13GHz (OC via BIOS to 2.45) Memory DDR2 (RAM) 4.00 GB Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT Gaming graphics 1983 MB Total available graphics memory Primary hard disk 79GB Free (233GB Total) Windows Vista (TM) Home Premium System -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Manufacturer System manufacturer Model System Product Name Total amount of system memory 4.00 GB RAM System type 32-bit operating system Number of processor cores 2 64-bit capable Yes Storage -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Total size of hard disk(s) 233 GB Disk partition (C:) 79 GB Free (233 GB Total) Media drive (D:) CD/DVD Graphics -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Display adapter type NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT Total available graphics memory 1983 MB Dedicated graphics memory 512 MB Dedicated system memory 0 MB Shared system memory 1471 MB Display adapter driver version 8.16.11.9107 Primary monitor resolution 1680x1050 DirectX version DirectX 10 Last edited by Celebryn; 11-01-2009 at 06:47 AM. |

Re: Possible future upgraded advice
Posting your PC specs would help us to offer advice on upgrades.
Brand & Model of Mobo-CPU-Graphics-PSU. A better choice for graphics would be to upgrade your present GPU. Dual GPU's offer a slight increase in performance with a big increase in cost. What question(s) do you have about 7?

Re: Possible future upgraded advice
Thanks for the reply. I am looking to make my computer up for an upcoming game... ok thats only part of it. I just love upgrading! First step however would be the OS.
OK here it goes: Processor Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6400 @ 2.13GHz (OC via BIOS to 2.45) ASUSP5LD2 SE/C DUAL DDR2, S-S-ATA, x16 VGA 2GBx2 DDR Corsair 667MHz Gainworth NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB Running Visita Home Premium 32-bit 700W Quiet quad rail PSU inc case fan and CPU cooler Since buying the system I have upgraded the GPU from an ATI X1950 Pro, 2GB to 4GB and OS (Media centre to Vista) only. As above I am more or less easy adding RAM and GPUs. I have only upgrading a single processor and and would prefer not to try a dual core :p My current set up ran Age of Conan on med-high settings, so I was just looking to upgrade the GPU and/or Ram for that new game in the future. I have mass-spring cleaned my system but its still starting to drag and load slow etc. The question on Windows 7 (I couldnt find teh answer on the OS forum) was that I am currently running 32-BIT Vista Home Premium though I would like to upgrade 64-bit 7 Home Premium when I upgrade. I have read I need to do a custom install, save and back up files etc before hand. THough one thing that is not clear is whether I need to buy the full version for this or whether the upgrade would suffice. . I have ran the Compatibilty Program and I shouldnt have to many problems.![]() Thanks. Last edited by Celebryn; 11-01-2009 at 07:59 AM. |

Re: Possible future upgraded advice
You an do an upgrade install fro Vista to 7 but it is always advisable to go with a clean install. You can do use an Upgrade version of 7. Upgrade discs have everything a full install disc has. You select "Custom/Advanced" when prompted. If you go with 64Bit, don't don't activate until you run it for awhile (you have 30 days) to be certain all is well with your software.
What brand is the power supply? You could upgrade the RAM to 2X2GB matched pair of DDR2800 or 1066.

Re: Possible future upgraded advice
Great! I was going to do a clean install as a last effort to get any rubbish off I cant see, I just needed to know if the upgrade version would do the trick before I ordered it!
Thanks for the leaving off activation suggest, its a good idea. I was thinking of RAM upgrade but I wasnt sure which types of RAM my MB could handle! Are these examples of those RAM?: http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/796616...y/Product.html http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/544827...y/Product.html There are abit above my price range atm but I will book mark em if they are the right ones :) I do not know the power supply. The company who built my computer prided themselves on only using the best makes but it doesnt say what it is on my list. Last edited by Celebryn; 11-01-2009 at 09:06 AM. |

Re: Possible future upgraded advice
I would go with the Corsair RAM.
You can identify the PSU by removing the case side and looking at the label on the PSU. It will have a label with the Make & Model number. "Most" companies do not use quality PSU's so I would suggest identifying the PSU before upgrading your GPU.

Re: Possible future upgraded advice
I understand some of these have nothing to do with GPU's but I dont want to make multiple posts if I can help it.
My DVD drive has been playing up a awhile now and since I am looking at upgrading I thought I should check it out. Most of the time I have to press the eject button several times before it ejects or even show any signs that I have pressed it, whether there is a DVD inside or not. Does it just need cleaning.. somehwere? |
