Color glitch w/ GTX 260
I just replaced my old graphics card (9800 GT) with a GTX 260 due to the old card having crapped out on me (located a bad piece of soldering). Unfortunately, when I try to place games now, I get a momentary freeze and then the game colors glitch to ... very weird things. I also recently received a message saying that the "nv4_display driver" has stopped working properly. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this?

Re: Color glitch w/ GTX 260
Hello.
Have you tried updating to your latest drivers? I got a link in my sig. Edit: I just recalled! This happened to me on my brothers laptop. It was the default driver and it was very buggy. I updated it and it was fixed. So this is what happens you game freezes screen flashes then you minimize with a yellow triangle saying that error message? Also, are you still using the same PSU that you used with 9800? Last edited by Zealex; 10-24-2009 at 02:59 PM. |

I have the latest drivers (6.14.11.9107) and they installed properly to the best of my knowledge, and yes it is the same power supply.
Also, the game doesn't exactly flash, but freezes then flashes once into the new color scheme. I only got the message once too.... Couldn't edit the post above, just wanted to say that I've now gotten the error message twice

Re: Color glitch w/ GTX 260
Go in to the bios and report what the temps and the voltages are listed as and report them back here.

Re: Color glitch w/ GTX 260
Wattage of current PSU is 880W. It should be enough for everything I have....
BIOS listing: MB Voltage Control CPU Vcore: 1.225V CPU Termination: 1.2 V CPU PLL 1.5V CPU Reference: .76V MCH Core: 1.1V MCH Reference: .76V MCH/DRAM Reference: .9V DRAM Voltage: 1.8V DRAM Termination: .9V Under PC Health Status Vcore: 1.188V DDR18V: 1.888V +3.3V: 3.328V +12V: 12.429V System Temp: 48 C CPU Temp: 46 C And my graphics card normally runs 45-50 degrees idle, 60-75 under load (depends on game) This glitch does not occur with old games (Age of Empires II) or first person shooters. I have only encountered it while playing Warcraft III and Civilization IV. The NVIDIA site says to alter PCI latency timer to 128, but my mobo has it hardcoded to 32. Any way I could change this with software?

Re: Color glitch w/ GTX 260
Hello.
Your PSU is weak and probably failing. You should buy a new one as soon as possible. Try Corsair 850W or Corsair 850W Modular, the difference is Modular has less cables but is more expensive. Also, download ATITool and scan for artifacts, your video card could also be damaged. Finally, open your case and blow out any dust or dirt.

Are you sure about the power supply is failing? (from everything I've discovered I think you're right, but that makes me sad)
My graphics card is just fine (as it should be since it's out of the box brand new), so are there any tests I can run to check and ensure it really is my power supply and not something with the motherboard or drivers? And how can it be my power supply? Far more graphically intense games (i.e. Call of Duty IV, Heroes V, so on and so forth) run excellently. Edit to above post: it does occur on Call of Duty IV at highest graphics settings

Re: Color glitch w/ GTX 260
The PSU will fail and fail suddenly if it gets above these ranges, 11.4v to 12.6v Your PSU is maxing it self out and I would think that your PSU is closer to the quality of a Corsair 650w.
I see all the examples of a poor PSU. the 5v and 3.3v each give out 30 amps and the 12v only gives out 768w. This is not a as advertised 880w but closer to a 750w. There is then efficiency of the rails which can be at 70% but are usually closer to 70% of the total together. You could go for a Corsair 750w but I feel safer with my Corsair 850w as I have my GTX 260 overclocked by 16% and it has the performance closer to a GTX 280. |

Re: Color glitch w/ GTX 260
Basically what Mcninjaguy is saying, the PSU's I suggested are perfect for what you need and you won't need to worry about them failing.

Re: Color glitch w/ GTX 260
can you try the card in another coputer to check it
the nv4 error is usually corrupted drivers in the device manager uninstall the video card reboot tapping f8 and choose vga mode when windows finishes rebooting disable a/virus install your drivers reboot the computer

Re: Color glitch w/ GTX 260
I have reinstalled the drivers, and my 12V rail has been spiking (only by a volt or so).

Re: Color glitch w/ GTX 260
Correction: after tests, my 12V rail has been spiking to 2.1V from under .5 volts. That seems like a problem to me, considering it's a TWELVE volt rail. Is it?

Re: Color glitch w/ GTX 260
AFter having changed the PSU, I am still getting the glitch. I assume it's my display drivers, but I've reinstalled them plenty of times. Any more help would be lovely, please and thank you.

Re: Color glitch w/ GTX 260
What PSU did you end up with? Also, since you have changed the PSU, go in to the BIOS (not an aftermarket program) and tell us what the temps and voltages are.

Re: Color glitch w/ GTX 260
I ended up with a Corsair 850W.
The voltages are as follows: MB Voltage Control CPU Vcore: 1.225V CPU Termination: 1.2 V CPU PLL 1.5V CPU Reference: .76V MCH Core: 1.1V MCH Reference: .76V MCH/DRAM Reference: .9V ICH I/O: 1.5V DRAM Voltage: 1.8V DRAM Termination: .9V Under PC Health Status Vcore: 1.188V DDR18V: 1.888V +3.3V: 3.312V +12V: 12.365V System Temp: 46 C CPU Temp: 47 C Do you think it's just the drivers, or is it, perhaps, the graphics card?
