BSODs after installing new graphics card.[MOVED]
Hello, i bought a new graphics card(HD Radeon 5870) , and it came in the mail toady. I promptly installed it and it worked fine up until a few hours later when i was playing Team Fortress 2. My computer locked up and went into this blank state with nothing on the moniter. I then turned off my computer and was greeted by a blank flashing underscore. I let it sit for 10 minutes and nothing happend. I then turned the computer off manually and restarted it. I can get to the desktop but after like 5 minutes i get the error
"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the Stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try chaging video adapters. Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode. Re: BSODs after installing new graphics card.
Hello stringball
That error is usually a problem with RAM or a video driver. Since you just installed a new video card, go to the manufacturers site and get the latest drivers for the card. .

Re: BSODs after installing new graphics card.
My previous graphics card was an Nivida 8800 gs. I would go and download the drivers but i can't be on the computer long enough without it crashing.
I have 4 gigs of ram, HD Radeon 4870, Windows XP, Intel Q6600 processer. I should also note i got the latest drivers before the error started occouring yesterday. Last edited by stringball; 10-21-2009 at 03:54 PM. |

Re: BSODs after installing new graphics card.
I hate to bump the thread but now it won't even start up...
I took out the video card and tried to start it up...now nothing even comes on the screen. I put it back in and still nothing, not even the light on my computer turns on... I would really really really appreciate any help. EDIT: i have a gf7100pvt-m3 motherboard. Last edited by stringball; 10-21-2009 at 05:38 PM. |

Re: BSODs after installing new graphics card.
If your not getting any fans or lights, then your PSU has died. Unless you accidentally unplugged something when pulling the card. re-seat all cards, RAM. cables and power cables.

Re: BSODs after installing new graphics card.
Sorry, i should mention that the fans still work. My keyboard lights up as well, but all 4 lights still stay lit as opposed to them turning off when my computer would normally boot up.

Re: BSODs after installing new graphics card.[MOVED]
Hello...
We need to know what's make/model of power supply, how old is it, is it dusted and what are voltages in BIOS... You should test RAM with MemTest86+: http://www.memtest.org/ Are you able to try your PC with old graphic card??? Keep us posted... |

Re: BSODs after installing new graphics card.[MOVED]
Ok, you don't have display now...
Old graphic card was working fine before you upgraded to new one right??? I am assuming you have the problem either with PSU or RAM... How many RAM sticks do you have? 2x2GB right??? Take one out and try to boot. If you can't see anything on screen, switch RAM modules and try again... Are you able to try with some other PSU??? [see if you can borrow from a friend and it is recommended to be more powerful than yours] Keep us posted... |

Re: BSODs after installing new graphics card.[MOVED]
I tried the ram, didn't work. I don't think it's the PSU, as the fans spin and my keyboard lights up, but if you really think i need to test another PSU i will.
