No video

dang... I'm having the same problem. The fan on my graphics card is spinning, but the monitor stays in standby mode... I've tried using a different graphics card and monitor, but neither worked. When I use the onboard graphics card, everything works fine (but it looks really lame...)

Re: No video

I have the same outcome either way. I also cannot install the drivers for the PCI express card because I cannot see anything when it's in the computer...

Re: No video

The drivers are not needed for the card to output, all video cards will output using the generic VGA driver or nobody would be able to install one.

Has the card been tested in a different PC?

Re: No video

what video card have you put in

boot from the onboard
in the device manager disable the onboard
if the card is listed uninstall it
turn the computer off
install the card
change the video cable from the onboard to the card
reboot into the bios
check to see if you can disable the onboard in there and set it to detect pcie first
save and exit the bios tapping f8 and choose low resolution mode
when windows finishes booting
disable a/virus
install your drivers for the card
reboot the computer

Re: No video

okay, I'll try that shortly. but... I'm afraid I do not know which cable is the 'video cable'... is it the one that is plugged into one of two slots on my motherboard near my video card?

also, the PCI card isn't in device manager (but I cannot get to the device manager with it in the computer..._

Re: No video

The Video cable is the one that hooks to the monitor in the back of the PC.
You haven't told us what video card your trying to install?

Re: No video

I'm sorry, nevermind that last post...

I have an ATI radeon X1650.

after I disabled the onboard graphics, I turned off the computer, put in the ATI card, moved the cable, and after I turned on the computer, still nothing was shown on my monitor...

Re: No video

Are you installing a PCI card or a PCIe card?
There are the 4 diagnostic lights on the front are any lit up when it won't boot?
Does the card have a auxiliary power plug on it? If so do you have it hooked up?
How about the brand and specific model of the card they are not all the same.

okay, it's a PCIe card. Sorry, I've never had a hardware problem before so I'm new to alot of these terms...

Where are the diagnostic lights? The ones on the computer or on the monitor?
The computer has one light, which shows green (showing that the computer is ON) and the monitor has a light also which is showing red/orange (showing that the computer is in sleep mode or turned off)

I do not think there is an auxiliary power plug, but I don't know how to be sure

It's an ATI radeon X1600 PRO (not x1650 like i said above, my bad) PCI express version 256 MB

Re: No video

oh, if the 4 diagnostic lights are on the card itself, I don't know how to identify them :( but if you tell me where they are, I can tell you what they're doing within a few minutes

Re: No video

There are lights on the front of your PC near the floppy drive/card reader or below the cd/dvd drives if you do not have either of those, numbers 1 through 4 that blink off and on during a normal boot, when there is a problem one or more should stay lit.

Is there a part number on the box the card came in?
Is it made by ATI or another company like Sapphire, Palait, XFX Etc?
Does it have a 4 pin power connector on the opposite end from the video cable connector?

Re: No video

ok, I see the lights... all four of the lights seem to blink off and on randomly (not in sync) for a few seconds. After that, the 1 and 2 light stay on shortly with the 3 and 4 lights off. then, the computer is booted.

I'm not sure which is the part number; there are many numbers on the box that are not labeled... it's made by sapphire and the box says "advantage edition 446MHz memory clock speed"

no, there is no power connector.

Re: No video

See if you can test the card in a different PC, the card should work in yours.
