my graphics card temp is far to high!

i have a Redeon HD4870 and it's temp while idle is 76. this seems far too high to me, though i could be wrong.

i have not OC'ed my GPU, not to my knowledge anyway. i did recently OC my CPU for the first time. i upped the FSB and CPU voltage but thats all. could this have had an affect?

thanks

Post all system specs include the power supply make and model. Also post what the case cooling setup is like. Is the room temp high?

Re: my graphics card temp is far to high!

What case are you using with what fan setup? If the room temperature is ever hot then the pc cannot stay cool , the computer needs to be taking in large amounts of cool air for that card. At least 2 120mm fans intake and exhaust.

Re: my graphics card temp is far to high!

The Coolermaster CM690 "should" have come with 3 120MM fans. One front (lighted)-one rear and one side.

Re: my graphics card temp is far to high!

Get some more 120mm's and occupy all of it's ports , if that case cannot properly move the air for that card it's bound to get hot.

Re: my graphics card temp is far to high!

I would add a 120MM (blowing into the case) to the front of the case. That is a very roomy case and should have no problems with airflow. Rerouting wiring cmay also help.

Re: my graphics card temp is far to high!

wont that result in an extremely loud pc? better than paying the money for a new GPU after overheating i guess but still, annoying.

Re: my graphics card temp is far to high!

I INSIST on a quiet PC. One of my PC's uses that case w/ the front and rear 120MM fans running and they are barely audible.
You could also try mounting the PSU upside down. That would let the PSU fan draw hot air away from the GPU and out of the case.
