adding an external DVI monitor via USB interface
Hi,
I have an XP machine with a motherboard-based VGA adapter; there's a standard VGA monitor attached to that. I would like to attach an additional monitor, specifically an Apple Cinema Display with DVI interface, to create an expanded desktop for use with Adobe Audition. I want to avoid upgrading the PC with a new video card that might support this, because the cards seem to include onboard fans and I'm in a quiet recording studio environment. Also, I might have to upgrade the power supply - this is an older Dell. So I am considering an outboard USB video interface like the IOGear unit ( IOGear USB DVI). Before I order one, I want to confirm: a) Will Windows XP correctly handle an expanded desktop split between a VGA and a DVI device, assuming I've installed the drivers for the interface device? b) Any issues if the monitor dimensions differ? The Apple monitor is wider and shallower. c) Any video driver issues running the Apple Cinema display under Windows? Thanks in advance! Last edited by zenpicker; 09-18-2009 at 11:34 AM. |
