Computer won't boot up with graphics card in

I bought an ASUS HD 4850 graphics card and installed it in a PCI Express 2 slot. When I power up the computer, it displays the POST screen, but that's as far as it gets. I tried changing the BIOS settings to make PCI Express the default graphics card slot, but it's made no difference.

Any ideas?

The graphics card name I gave is how it was displayed on the site I bought it from. Here's a link to the exact model on the manufacturer's site. http://uk.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=3BzSFWNkHEd79aYe

That asrock board may be to blame . There not the best quality and the support for them is less then stellar. It may just be a flat out incompatibility. It's best to avoide pci-e2.0 card in 1.0slots with oem's or cheaper boards.

Or it can also be the power supply aswell.

Re: Computer won't boot up with graphics card in

I've been trying to find out what the board supports, but the manufacturer's website isn't very helpful. I've emailed their techsupport to ask if the card is supported. Perhaps they'll suggest graphics cards that are supported if it isn't.

Thanks for your response.

Re: Computer won't boot up with graphics card in

Can anyone suggest a motherboard that would be compatible with my graphics card or a graphics card that would be compatible with my motherboard?
