NVidia Driver/Softare or RAM - PC Shuts down
Current specs (prior to changing MoBo):
* Asus PQ5 PRO Turbo * NVidia GTS 250 * Corsair DHX XMS2 Dominator Dual Channel 2048MB PC6400 DDR2 800Mhz Memory - 2x * Intel Core2 Duo E6600 2.4ghz 4M 1066FSB Socket 775 * Etasis / Gaming Power / 750-Watt / ATX / SATA-Ready / SLI-Ready / Power Supply * OS = Vista 32bit Previous/Original MoBo: * BFG NVidia 680SLI * S/A here is my problem. My PC was shutting down automatically, without warning, etc..with the BFG NVidia MoBo immediately; assumed that it was the PSU and purchased a new on at Best Buy, BFG - 1000-Watt ATX CPU Power Supply. Swapped everthing over to new PSU; same result. Then placed the original Etasis PSU back in. I did not see any BSoD's; therefore i ruled out 4gbs of Corsair RAM. Also; it got worse to the point where the PC would only boot up; with ligting/fans and CPU Fan/Heat Sink. There was no beeps, no screen, etc. I then figured, it was the MoBo. This is when i purchased and installed it my current verion using the Asus pQ5 Pro Turbo. I decided to proceeded to install hardware one by one, making sure everything booted/started/powered up. In this order is how i began: CPU/Fan - Worked Fan/Lighting - Worked HD - Worked DVD/ROM - Worked RAM - Worked Graphics Card (NVidia GTS250) - Worked then booted up; everything was working fine, even during the set up for BioS then i reinstalled XP Home and did the upgrade to Vista 32bit. then i installed new drivers for Asus MoBo. then i DLd the drivers from NVidia for the GTS 250. everything was working fine until i opened NVidia Control Panel and adjusted screen resolution. this when the PC starting shutting down automatically again. i even tried using the previous Video Card - NVidia 8800 GTS and the same result. the only time it runs fine; is when i disable/uninstall the NVidia drivers. OH and by the way; the only way to get it boot up with a screen is to clear RTC from the default setting. i have been reading lots of issues with NVidia and Vista. i am kind of leaning and banking that NVidia/Vista drivers, HotFixes, etc.....have some kind of conflict. Is there any other tests that i can perform or is my impression with NVidia drivers and Vista truly have conflicts?? Please advise :) Thanks!!!! Sincerely; Humble |

Re: NVidia Driver/Softare or RAM - PC Shuts down
alright.....
so; i got everything up and running. i even added my 8800GT to the 2nd PCI-E, so that i can run my dual monitor setup. (each monitor running independantly on the VCards). i then proceeded to play WoW and took about 30 minutes before my PC shut down again. i did notice that GTS 250 was running hot and the 8800GT was running hot as well but hotter than the 250. i also noticed a really low FPS, much less than what it used to do. when i monitored the internal core temparature and GPU temperature; they both were hanging around 60-65C.....but when i felt the chassis, it felt much hotter than that. i am also starting to think it may be my RAM as well or both; because i also ran Memory Diagnostic Check and it did detect Hardware issues. any advice; opinions; feedback, etc.... ?? i am trying to avoid having to spend more $$$ than necessary. |
